High-End Gateway in Levi, Lapland

Lapland has plenty of gorgeous, photogenic and instagrammable places, which many travel here for to experience and memorize for life. I decided to experiment couple of these places in Levi, which both have also been featured by National Geographic UK. Here I have gathered some general information, what to expect and what to take into consideration before traveling.

Levin Iglut – Golden Crown

Levin Iglut is a family owned high-end company offering luxury accommodation, as well as restaurant and activity services throughout the year. It all started with one man’s dream to be able to share the unforgettable view of the Utsuvaara slope to others. Today, Tauno Mäkelä’s family business and its services, especially their igloos are highly famous and usually fully booked throughout the year, mostly during the snowiest and aurora filled part of the year. If you’ve ever seen gorgeous igloo photos from social media influencers and travel magazines, the chances are, you’ve spotted these particular igloos, which are available in two sizes and three price ranges. Suite Igloos are located at the very end of the igloo village, overlooking the beautiful fell views and its trees.

In addition to these ones being larger in size and offering more indoor facilities, they also have a terrace and outdoor jacuzzi right behind each igloo for your very private use. However, if you prefer to stay in Prime Superior Igloo or Superior Igloo, which are just as amazing, and still experience the great outdoors in warmth, there’s also sauna and jacuzzi by the Northern Lights House, which you can book for your private use when it’s not reserved.

Restaurant Utsu offers Scandinavian style breakfast, lunch and dinner under a glass ceiling, where you get to continue to admire the views, while experiencing the pure, local ingredients. It’s recommended to make a table reservation beforehand to ensure a table at your desired time. Restaurant Utsu, the Northern Lights House and Kota are also available for private parties and events, such as birthdays and weddings, as well as romantic private occasions.

Levin Iglut is located on the slope of the fell at a height of 340 meters, approximately 10 kilometers from Levi center. The location offers gorgeous arctic views, nature’s peace, and only little light pollution, so you can enjoy the northern lights to the fullest when they appear above the igloos. The company offers transfer services, so you can easily get there straight from the airport or bus station. Other options include renting your own car, or using the local taxi services. Levi Foxfires

Levi Foxfires is owned by a  British / Polish couple Agnieszka and Paul, who used to live in London and traveled the world every chance they got. They fell in love with Levi at first sight, and knew they had found their home amongst the snowy threes and under the northern lights. Now, they want to offer you the same sensations, and the feeling of home at the Levi Foxfires. This unique place is located in the ancient Taiga Forest, an 8-minute drive from Levi center, as well as 300 meters from the nearest ski slopes, cross country skiing tracks and walking / biking trails.

It has come very instagram famous with its luxurious looking outdoor sauna and jacuzzi, but that’s not all to it, as they also have a high-end mini boutique hotel with individually designed private rooms and en-suite bathrooms, inspired by majestic Arctic nature and wildlife, and Scandinavian design. These luxurious rooms also have large windows, which makes it possible for the guests to admire the large surrounding trees, and maybe even the northern lights if you’re lucky, from the comfort of your bed! After a good night’s sleep, you can enjoy an inclusive Nordic breakfast flavored with Lappish delicacies and served in dedicated breakfast area with large windows and a fireplace. At Levi Foxfires you’ll get to appreciate the pure nature in many forms, but you’re also giving back to it, as a percentage of the profit is donated to the World Wildlife Fund.

Foxfires is usually fully booked for month in advance, so it’s highly recommended to make your reservation early! In case the accommodation is already fully booked for your desired time, you’re always welcome to book the Arctic Spa separately, and enjoy it privately for 2,5 hours, with transportations within 10km radius included!
